Being with HER: Refugee Youth Meet

The youth meet at BOSCO is one of the most awaited events. The youth team of BOSCO- Delhi, over the years has been organizing events that bring together fun, knowledge, creativity, innovation and freshness of all nationalities. Youth Meet – the Annual Cultural event/competition of BOSCO since its inception has always brought out the best talents in the youth to the fore. This year, youth meet was celebrated with the theme “Being with Her”, in keeping with the 16 days activism period to end violence against women.
This event was organized at Shah Auditorium in Civil Lines-New Delhi and was attended by approximately 700 youth, staff and guests. The Chief Guest for the day was Ms. Yasuko Shimizu Chief of mission UNHCR.  10 clubs of Afghan, Somali, Hindu/Sikh Afghan and Rohingya nationalities performed on stage to win titles and prizes.

The programme started by Fr. Biju Akilettu (Director of BOSCO-Delhi) and Ms. Yasuko Shimizu (Chief of Mission UNHCR) coming forward for the lighting of the lamp ceremony. Both Fr. Biju and Ms. Yasuko graced the stage and spoke to encourage and admired the young talents.

 The youth meet is a platform along which the refugee students and youth are able to unveil their talents and work collectively in a group. There is a spirit of healthy competition for the first position in different categories such as Song, Dance, Tableau etc. The evening witnessed some amazing performances by various groups who left no stone unturned in showcasing their beautiful talents. The teams showcased beautiful and touching scenes on the theme and there were truly no words needed to understand the sentiments and messages in the depictions.  The youth got dressed in colorful costumes and ethnic wear of their countries; sang and danced to popular songs of their land. Both Boys and Girls came on stage and proudly presented the culture of their country through different mediums. The winner’s title of youth meet 2018 was presented to the 'Champion' youth club as their combined score was the highest.

The Judges for the day, Ms. Shefali & Ms. Parul, Associate Professors from Ambedkar University were welcomed and thanked for sparing their valuable time to judge the competition.

The youth returned home that day with happiness and memories till the next year when they again compete for the most awaited youth meet winner title.
