Organic Kitchen Garden

We are supporting and empowering villagers with sustainable skills to nourish themselves and their families, and it’s your generosity that makes this work possible. Thank you for joining us on our journey and supporting this compassionate action.

We are so happy to share that our project “Organic Kitchen Garden” reaches out to 1500 tribal families in Jharkhand. We are helping to grow nutritious fruits and vegetable gardens for families in need in the remote, underserved state of Jharkhand, India.  We are working with villagers to distribute seeds and plants, teach women and families in-need to tend their own gardens and collaborate with others to increase long-term sustainability.

So far in 2019, thanks to your support, we have been able to provide 1500 households with seed packets for their kitchen gardens, and over 300 ducks and 300 chickens including goats have already been distributed to over 1000 households. Along with seed and plant distribution, our field staff is working with villagers to provide information and guidance while they plant and grow their gardens.

Raniand Rasmiis, the villager, who has grown a nutritious garden, thanks to this project. “Previously, we survived on just rice and lentils. There were no vegetables at home because it was too expensive to purchase them at the market. Now because of the kitchen gardens, we have fresh fruits and vegetables in our own backyard! We definitely feel healthier than before.”

The gardens planted by the project are growing in more ways than one. After participating in our Kitchen Garden program and learning the importance of growing a variety of vegetables to their families, they decided to spread the abundance by helping their neighbours plan and start gardens of their own.

Active support from people around the world is helping us fight malnutrition and ensure long-term sustainability. We urge you to please continue your support so that we can help more families-in-need through this sustainable, empowering program.
