What it is?
It is the development of the curriculum of the different training modules related to Vocational/Technical and other Skill Based Trainings based on each target group. It is with the help of this training that today, with over 120 Don Bosco Institutes imparting such technical training to over 23,000 youngsters across the country it is regarded as the leading non-governmental agency in the field of technical training in India.
The modular competency oriented skills training was developed at Don Bosco Yuva Kendra (DBYK), Najafgarh by BOSCO under NVTS/GTZ collaboration. It provides the required competency to the youth and gives them access to the growing and employable opportunities of the market. Modules of Skills Training developed by Don Bosco are demand driven, performance oriented, flexible and modular, which provide upward mobility.
The developed modules are packaged for training of trainers and trainees, resource assessment, follow-up and placement with the service provider.
Methodology: GTZ with Don Bosco, focused on the development of competency oriented modular short term training courses, which reflect the demand and dynamics in the informal sector. Most of the trade areas were broken down in basic skills courses followed by specialization in identified job areas. The approach aimed at promoting efficiency and effectiveness of skills training through on-the-job training, employment oriented and market-relevant skills training, as well as the optimal utilization of the institutional resources. The idea of a “supermarket of modules of competency oriented skills training” in trade skills and life skills, was developed jointly by GTZ, CIM with BOSCO Cooperation.
